i earned my phd in the linguistics department at yale university. under the auspices of maría mercedes piñango and the language & brain lab, i do research at the intersection of linguistics, psychology, and cognitive neuroscience. i'm primarily interested in how linguistic meaning is manipulated in real-time, how cognitive and neural architectures support this manipulation, and how individuals differ systematically in these processes.
i look at the minds, brains, and oral articulators of children and adults who speak english or mandarin chinese.
i'm a carillonist (click here for an official description, from the guild of carillonneurs of north america, of what a carillon is). i perform regularly on the yale memorial carillon and i often give recitals in other places around the world.
all the brushstroke motifs on my site were created for and tattooed onto me by lee stewart; the portraits, photographic and hand-drawn, are by matthew nguyen.
